State Fairgrounds Visioning Sessions Set for February 2014

December 16, 2013 12:03 PM | Jordan Twardy

Michigan State Fairgrounds Coliseum Building8MBA was on hand for exciting news at the latest meeting of the Fairgrounds Advisory Council, which featured a project progress update from the Magic Plus Development team, including project partners Joel Ferguson and Marvin Beatty, along with CEO Dale Watchowski, Senior Vice President and 8MBA Board Member Kenneth Till and Public Relations Consultant Bruce Babiarz from REDICO.

The development team is currently selecting a master planner to help establish a vision for the entire site, choosing from a pool of five nationally-renowned master planning firms including Ehrenkrantz Eckstut & Kuhn Architects, HKS Architects, Hobbs+Black Architects, JPRA Architects and Smith Group JJR.

Once the master planner has been selected, the development team will work with them to craft an initial concept framework for the site. From there, community visioning sessions, which 8MBA advocated for as part of the development process, will commence with an initial meeting in February. The team stressed their commitment to a financially viable development that incorporates transit-oriented development (TOD), walkability and a diverse mix of uses, including housing, educational, retail and more.

8MBA is thrilled to see the project’s progress to-date and remains committed to keeping Eight Mile stakeholders informed and engaged throughout the process.
