Hands on 8 Mile "Hangs Out" in Knudsen Playlot and Sows Big Fun in Farwell Community Garden!
Over 50 people came out on a Saturday morning to weed, hoe, rake, & shovel; cleanup & beautify; plant & sow; hang and paint; laugh and eat at the Hands on 8 Mile event on June 3rd. Most of us had never met until we did and now we'll forever be community. A team was dispatched to the Knudsen Playlot at 8 Mile & I-75 to cleanup, plant wild flowers, and perennials and hang the much-awaited new sign that was painted last year by the MBFS Week of Caring Volunteers (see slide show above).
While the second team, led by Elois Moore and Mr. Williams of the Binder Street Block Club, met at Farwell Community Garden. This team included volunteers from all over the metro area, including a large group of employees from one of the event sponsors, Ferndale Labs. They weeded the beautiful flower berm that faces 8 Mile Boulevard and got the garden in tip-top shape for the season while others took a creative touch to painting the gazebo and new benches.
A tired crew shared a picnic lunch in the shade featuring hotdogs grilled by Mr. Howard.
Thanks to everyone for their hard work!
